Tibet Institute Rikon: Preserving Tibetan Buddhism in the Heart of Europe
During a recent visit to Switzerland, we traveled to Tibet Institute Rikon, a landmark institution in the Canton of Zurich and one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Europe. Established in 1967 at the initiative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and inaugurated in 1968, the monastery has served for nearly six decades as a center for Buddhist practice, Tibetan culture, and dialogue between Tibetans and Western communities. During the visit we met with Dharma practitioner Tenzin Phuntsok, who has been associated with the monastery since its founding, and administrator Peter, who shared insights into the institute's long journey with Tibetan Buddhism and culture.
