Sikyong Penpa Tsering has officially been sworn in for his second five-year term as the political leader of the Central Tibetan Administration (Tibetan Government in Exile). The ceremony was held in Dharamshala, India, on May 27th in the presence of Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, alongside international parliamentary delegations from four nations and a special delegation from the U.S. Embassy. Mr. Tsering achieved a historic electoral milestone by securing over 61% of the vote in the preliminary round across 27 countries, making him the first candidate to win the leadership outright without a final runoff since the Dalai Lama devolved political power to elected leaders in 2011. In his address, Sikyong Penpa Tsering reaffirmed his commitment to the Dalai Lama’s long-standing "Middle Way" policy, clarifying that he does not seek full independence for Tibet, but rather genuine autonomy and a non-violent resolution to the Sino-Tibet conflict through dialogue and mutual benefit. He emphasized the critical need for Tibetan unity, global advocacy, tech-driven e-governance, and the preservation of Tibetan language, culture, and religion. International dignitaries, including the All-Party Australian Parliamentary Group for Tibet and U.S. Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Riley Barnes, extended their formal congratulations and reaffirmed their continued support for the democratically elected Tibetan leadership and the preservation of Tibetan identity.
