Nepal has removed Princess Bhrikuti—known to Tibetans as Bhelsa Tritsun, the revered consort of King Songtsen Gampo—from its list of national luminaries. Though honoured since 1955 for introducing Buddhism to Tibet, she was quietly dropped in 2017 due to an alleged lack of "unified historical records." Advocates argue this decision ignores her established legacy in Tibetan history and are pushing for her reinstatement. In a move to revive her memory, the Bagmati Province has allocated Rs 10 million to reconstruct her birthplace in Khopasi.
