Devotees on Sunday made a beeline for Gandantegchenling Monastery in Mongolia to pay homage to the Holy Relics of two chief disciples of Lord Buddha.

On May 30, India transferred the sacred relics to Mongolia for the 10-day public exposition, underscoring the deep cultural and spiritual ties between the two nations. The relics were airlifted from New Delhi to Ulaanbaatar aboard an Indian Air Force (IAF) IL-76 aircraft, also known as Gajraj.

“Devotees in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia are lining up from early morning to pay homage to the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha’s Chief Disciples, Sariputra & Maudgalyayana, at Gandantegchenling Monastery. On display till 9 June, 2026!” the Ministry of Culture posted on X and posted videos of the devotees.

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena will travel to Mongolia today to accompany the sacred relics of two prominent disciples of Lord Buddha from Ulaanbaatar back to New Delhi, following a 10-day exhibition in Mongolia.
