Chinese authorities have imposed heavy security and tightened surveillance in Pawo Lobga Rangzen’s hometown in eastern Tibet, according to Phayul. The measures followed Rangzen’s July 2 self-immolation outside United Nations headquarters in New York, where he called for Tibetan independence and unity. Rangzen, also known as Lobsang Palden, was born in the Kardze region of Dokham and later lived in New York. Tibetan sources say authorities have often expanded security controls after self-immolation protests to prevent public mourning, information sharing, or solidarity actions. The reported restrictions come amid wider enforcement of China’s Ethnic Unity and Progress Law.
