China condemns Czech President’s meeting with Dalai Lama and CTA President

DHARAMSHALA, July 29: China reiterated its familiar rhetoric on Monday, strongly opposing Czech President Petr Pavel’s meeting with Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the President of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Penpa Tsering, during his visit to India. Beijing condemned the engagement as a serious violation of its stated position and a blow to China-Czech bilateral relations.

President Pavel’s historic visit to Ladakh on Sunday, during which he expressed strong support for the Dalai Lama’s Middle Way Approach and the Tibetan people’s cultural and religious freedoms, marked the first time a sitting head of state has visited India specifically to meet the Tibetan leader.
