Speaking to us, Tibetan Youth Congress President Tsering Choephel said the demonstration was a protest against China's "illegal occupation of Tibet," its ongoing policies aimed at eroding Tibetan identity, and the continued repression of the Tibetan people. He added that the protest also sought to honour Lobga Rangzen's sacrifice and to hold China accountable for its policies in Tibet.
